The final number of victims has not been officially announced, yet Serbian government estimated around 2,500 killed and 5,000 wounded civilians. During the war in Kosovo hundreds of thousands of people fled their homes, Serbs, Albanians and other non-Albanians. Together with the army and the police, over 200,000 Kosovo Serbs abandoned their homes never to return. The result of the operation was a unilateral declaration of independence by the Kosovo Albanians.
